2001 Champions on Ice

Interviewer: Dei Lynham (DL)

DL: Backstage with Sarah Hughes who is fresh off a bronze at the Worlds. That has to feel great to say, doesn't it?

Sarah: Yeah, it's so amazing. You know, now when I skate they say "US silver medalist and the new World bronze medalist', and every time it's so exciting and it's like "Oooooh!" (smiles)

DL: Now I said to you, having such a great performance, you'd want to bottle whatever you did before you went to Worlds. So what was that whole little routine that I've heard you did before you went to Worlds?

Sarah: Well, you know, when I get to a competition, I just pretend it's at home, so, you know, I always bring my computer and I love to go online, so I talk to my friends and I go online and I talk to my friends online and my brothers and sisters and just have a lot of fun because, you know, I'm away and I can visit places and it's a lot of fun.

DL: Is it true you are a babysitter and that you can also cook as well?

Sarah: Yeah, that's true. Before I left for Worlds, I babysat for my sister and two of her friends and you know, made waffles for them and everything and we just had a lot of fun.

DL: Very good, congratulations!

Sarah: Thank you.
