3/24 Melinda posted the following on the Sarah mailing list (sarah-hughes@onelist.com): (Thanks Melinda!)

Sarah is featured in a magazine called "Ice Queens and Kings!" There is a photo of Sarah performing her Swan Lake program on page 57 and a small article. I recommend this magazine for skating fans. You can pick a copy up at a local store at the checkout stands.

3/23 If you don't want to wait until it airs on TV, you can watch Worlds LIVE on Eurosport online! It's not a streaming video, but it is a screen showing European coverage that refreshes every 5 seconds or so. Just click here, then click "Start" and when the screen pops up, just click on "Euro-Sport" on the right and you'll be watching Worlds! Here is the schedule (in EST):

Ladies Qualifying--Wenesday, March 29--1:30AM and 7:00AM (Sarah will be shown at ONE of those times (depending on her qual. group))
Ladies Short Program--Friday, March 31--7:00AM
Ladies Long Program--Saturday, April 1--9:00AM

3/17 Sarah is mentioned several times in the current (April 2000) issue of Blades on Ice magazine. There is a picture of her from Nationals on page 36. She is also mentioned in the ladies recap from Nationals on pages 39-41. On page 88, she is mentioned as a member of Team USA, which defeated the World team at the USA v. The World pro-am back in December.

3/15 A friend of mine has spoken to a representative from the USFSA and Sarah has confirmed for the Hershey's Kisses Challenge on April 11 in Binghamton, New York. All information has been added to the competition schedule and television schedule.

Also, Sarah is on the current cover of Skating Magazine along with the rest of this year's US World Team!

3/14 The USFSA has put up their 2000 Worlds page. They have a section where you can send fan mail to Sarah (or other US skaters). Check it out!

Kathy Goedeken has posted some photos from Nationals on her site. She has two of Sarah: one from the Short Program and one on the podium.

3/12 Sarah was shown yesterday on a promo for Worlds during ABC's Four Continents coverage. It was a still screen featuring Sarah (at the top :), Michelle Kwan, and the third member of the team (whom I will not mention because Jr. Worlds has not been on TV yet. It was Sasha or Angela :) I will put a screenshot of the ad up in the gallery after Junior Worlds has been televised!

3/10 According to jimikwan on the Michelle Kwan Forum, an ISU spokesperson has said that Sarah has confirmed participation in the Hershey's Kisses Challenge (April 11). This is not official yet and I won't add it to the competition or TV schedule until competitors are announced by the USFSA. Other skaters said to have confirmed so far are: Michelle Kwan, Kristi Yamaguchi, Sasha Cohen, Surya Bonaly, Todd Eldredge, Elvis Stojko, Timothy Goebel, Michael Weiss, and Victor Petrenko.

3/9 A song was suggested for Sarah to skate to on SkateRadio's "You Pick The Music" program last night. The song was "Home" from the soundtrack of Disney's broadway musical "Beauty and the Beast". Check out a sound clip and the lyrics.

3/8 According to Anna G at the SH Fan Center, Sarah has been invited to skate in this year's Hershey's Kisses Challenge (which I believe is being renamed the Spring Figure Skating Challenge). Other skaters who have been invited are: Michelle Kwan, Katarina Witt, Surya Bonaly, Irina Slutskaya, Yvgeny Plushenko, Elvis Stojko, Todd Eldredge, Michael Weiss, and Sasha Cohen. Remember, NONE of these skaters (including Sarah) have confirmed yet, they have simply been invited. (Thanks Anna!!)

3/7 Skate Radio now has play lists for each skater. Here are the songs Sarah has skated to that they currently play:

Mony Mony
Nessun Dorma
The Prayer
Time To Say Goodbye
Yesterday

You can still request more songs that Sarah has skated to, like Swan Lake for example :)

3/5 I attended Stars on Ice Saturday night in New York City and Sarah was in the audience as well! I spotted her (thanks to some very observant people sitting in my section :) during intermission. Big news here--she has a new haircut!! It's a lot shorter (almost like Michelle Kwan's, only it looked a bit shorter in the front and longer in the back). I took a couple of pictures, but I doubt they will turn out because I was quite a ways away from where she was in the arena. If they do turn out, I'll be sure to post them here on the site! Sarah was there with her coach, Robin Wagner, and some people pointed out to me that she was also talking to Nicole Bobek.

2/29 Sarah is shown on a commericial on ABC for the European Championship coverage this weekend. They show a clip of her on the podium with Michelle Kwan and Sasha Cohen and it says, "Find out who Team USA will face at the World Championships." Since we didn't get to see the medal ceremonies televised, I thought it was nice to see a little glimpse of the podium on this ad.

2/28 There is a new 24-Hour Figure Skating Radio station on the internet! It is located at SkateRadio.net and you can request any song you want. I have already heard one of Sarah's songs played (Time to Say Goodbye). At the end of the week (on Saturday) they have a top-10 countdown of the most requested songs of the week. I thought it would be neat if one of the songs Sarah has skated to made the Top-10 list! (Note: you need Windows Media Player to listen to the station).

2/25 [from SFX Skating] Amy Webster's US Nationals ladies review can be found on SFX Skating. Here is what she had to say about Sarah's performances:

Short Program:
But before the night was over, Sarah Hughes had also taken advantage of Kwan’s earlier mistake. With the most speed in the group, Hughes answered Cohen’s challenge with a clean skate of her own. Immediately following Cohen’s standing ovation, Hughes landed the same jumps as Cohen -- including a nice triple flip out of footwork and a huge double axel -- but lacked the polish and gorgeous positions of her fellow teenager. Her artistry has improved significantly over the past year, and she skates with greater confidence, too.

Long Program:
Hughes drew to skate first in the final group, but didn’t let that faze her. She immediately showed off her ever improving artistry with beautiful arm movements and a confident presence. Her entire number was pleasant to watch, and she exaggerated each landing position on her jumps to show her control and lovely position. She landed a difficult triple salchow-triple loop combination, but turned her second triple-triple attempt into a triple-single. A fall on her final triple salchow kept her from coming out ahead of Kwan, but she did skate with more speed than any other lady in the event. It would have been a difficult event to judge if the three top ladies had all skated cleanly, but luckily for the judges, that didn’t happen.

2/22 [from Blades On Ice] Sarah is mentioned in the latest Blades on Ice Newsbrief in their review of the exhibitions at Nationals. Here's what it said:

Sarah Hughes (Championship Ladies Bronze medalist) provided one of the day's highlights with her elegant performance in all white to "The Prayer" by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli, drawing the audience into her performance.

2/15 [from NewsDay] Sarah will NOT be competing at the Four Continent Championships. She has decided to take the time to train for Worlds instead. (Thanks Jenny!)

2/13 According to the USFSA's Rink Notes from the Nationals press conference, Sarah will be competing at the Four Continents Championships February 21-27 in Osaka, Japan.

Sarah won the bronze medal at the National Championships! She skated a clean program except for a fall on the last triple salchow and she singled the triple loop in her triple toe-triple loop combo. She will be going to Worlds again this year. Congratulations Sarah!!!

2/12 Sarah competed in the Short program on Friday. Click here to see the results! Also, check out the starting order for the long program.

2/9 There are some practice reports now from Tuesday's practice. Buffy, on the Michelle Kwan Forum, had this to say about Sarah:

My day started by sitting right next to Sarah Hughes and Kimberly Kilby on the shuttle from my hotel to the practice rink!! Sarah was busy talking with her coach, so I didn't talk to her. She has more of a New York accent in person than on t.v.!!!! She had two very solid practices today, landing her 3/3 in her lp run through. She has been all smiles - as usual. All of her jumps and spins were very consistent.

Click here to read the rest of Buffy's report. Jayar posted the following on Figure Skating World:

Sarah Hughes did her 3sal-3loop. It was much more polished than Slutskaia's. She took out the 3lutz-2toe in it's place. She did land one true LUTZ in practice. There was no flutz. She was either 1st or 2nd in the practice.

Click here to read the rest of Jayar's report.

2/7 Sarah appears in a commercial along with Sasha Cohen, Naomi Nari Nam, and Michelle Kwan for the upcoming Nationals TV coverage on ABC. The ad shows Michelle skating and Sasha, Sarah, and Naomi talking about Michelle. Sarah says, "Yeah, I like Michelle Kwan." If you watch ABC at all between now and Saturday, I'm sure you'll catch a glimpse of it! :)

2/5 [from USFSA] The starting order has been posted on the USFSA site for the Ladies' Short Program. Click here if you would like to find out when Sarah will skate!

2/4 [from Michelle Wojdyla] According to Tania Bass's (Sarah's costume designer's) official website, Sarah will have some new costumes at Nationals for practice and her short program.

2/3 [from USA Today] There is an article in today's edition of USA Today featuring a preview of the ladies competition at Nationals. Among other things, it says that Sarah is preparing to try a triple salchow-triple loop combination and a triple toe loop-triple loop combination at Nationals.

2/2 [from SFX Skating] SFX Skating is currently featuring Nationals predictions by Amy Webster (former US Ice Dance medalist). Click here to read what she has to say about the ladies competition. Also, I found several pictures of Sarah up for auction at Ebay but I can't put them in any of the galleries due to copyrights. However, if you would like to view them at their original location, they can be found at this URL: http://www.skatesonice.com/sarah/Page.html. They are from her Beatles and Serenade Fur Klara programs at the Grand Slam.

1/20 [from USFSA] The USFSA has put up their Official Nationals Page. The practice groups are listed and Sarah is in Championship Ladies Group C. The practice and competition schedule is also up and I have put Sarah's schedule on the Competition Schedule section of this site.

1/15 Sarah is mentioned several times in the current (February) issue of Blades on Ice. She is mentioned on page 39 discussing her performances at Skate America, on page 67 about winning the bronze medal in Trohpee Lalique, and on page 95 there is a short article about Sarah's victory earlier this year at the Vienna Cup. She is also pictured on the same page taking a bow at the end of her Fantasy Impromptu short program from last year. And finally, on page 98, there is a picture of Sarah with Jamie Silverstein.

1/5 Sarah is going to be on the Early Show on CBS tomorrow morning (Thursday) between 8:15 and 8:30am EST!

12/27 Sarah is pictured twice in the book "Inside Figure Skating" by Alina Sivorinovsky. Both pictures are of Sarah in her white Swan Lake costume. One is on page 2 and the other is on page 143. I'm not sure if there is anything written about Sarah in the book yet, as I have not had time to read it all.

12/21 Sarah was on TV last night in the Vail Figure Skating Festival on TBS. If you missed it (like I did ;) it will be repeated tonight (December 21) from 10:35pm-12:35am (EST) on TBS. 11/13--Sarah is mentioned a few times in the current issue of Blades on Ice magazine (December 1999). There is a picture on pg. 13 of Sarah performing Swan Lake. On pages 16-17 there is a two page article about Sarah. There are two pictures: one of Sarah with her coach, Robin and the other of Sarah performing Fantasy Impromptu. The article talks about Sarah's success last season and some of her early competitions this year. It gives a few more details about her new competitive programs, Serenade Fur Klara (her short program from the soundtrack of the German movie Klara) and her long program, Vanessa-Mae's Violin Fantasy featuring selections from the opera Turandot.

10/31--[from USFSA] Sarah has finished competing in Skate America! After placing 2nd in the short program, Sarah wound up 4th place overall, which is still very impressive for her first ever Grand Prix competition. Tonya Harding at 9:15am ET
Naomi Narinam and Sarah Hughes and Michelle Kwan.

10/14--[from Blades On Ice] Sarah is mentioned in the current Blades On Ice Newsbrief for her win in the Vienna Cup. Here's what it says:

Sarah Hughes from Hackensack in New Jersey won the ladies' competition. It was her third competition within two weeks after Kitchener, Canada, and Orlando, Florida. Her coach Robin Wagner said the Vienna Cup was a hard international challenge for her pupil. Hughes had not skated her long program for some time, but had to perform it after only one training session in Vienna. If she did well, she would show a strength that would help her meet the high goals she set for herself in the future. She had a clean short program with a good Lutz combination, and a wonderful spiral sequence. Her soft and elegant style impressed the judges also in the long program. Four safe triple jumps with exceptionally quick rotation were a big plus. Her only mistake was a fall on the Salchow in the end.

10/12--Sarah is currently *front page* news on the USFSA Homepage for her win at the Vienna Cup! Check it out before they take it down! :)

10/10--[from Figure Skating World] Sarah finished first in the Vienna Cup (Karl Schafer Memorial). Congrats, Sarah, on your first Senior international victory!! :)
